CREED II (2018)
Unfortunately, this one doesn't quite live up to the exceptional first film, but it tries.
A lot of what is wrong with this film is the writing. I found it a bit cheesy and cliched at times, almost tired/lethargic. Just boring! I think even the actors didn't even believe in the what they were saying because it's delivery even made me question Michael B Jordan's acting ability (and he's pretty great in the first one)!
Initially this is an interesting concept for a sport/action film - Viktor Drago, Ivan Drago vs Adonis Creed, Apollo Creed's son and Rocky Balboa's protégé - it's all there, the story should have worked, but again, the writing let it down.
Additionally, the 'lumping in' of Tessa Thompson's character is exactly that. The story arch of her pregnancy and a deaf child, felt forced and shoe-horned in, something about this narrative irked - it felt rushed, underdeveloped and inauthentic. To be completely honest, we could have done without it.
Actually, what does work, script-wise (despite everything I've just said above) is the unspoken complexity of Viktor Drago's character. He doesn't say much but his intense brooding works.
What is a winner for the film, is the visuals - They were very good! Everything you want in an fight/action film; especially during the fight and training scenes... (I mean, shirtless oiled up men, what's not to love about that?! Ha!)
Was an enjoyable film, if you need an easy watch.
